On this years World Mental Health day I decided to share this 4 minute video with every patient I saw on October 10th so I ended up watching it 7 times. Never once got bored by it. What I learned, actually what I already knew, was that compassion never goes stale and the poignancy of the personal testimonies featured carried sufficient emotional heft to significantly impact on each of the patients I shared it with. They recognised themselves, knew they weren’t alone and vowed to limit the damage of the internal critic. Same for me.
It was a good day in the office.
Thank you Kristen Neff and Chris Germer.
